Update 23/4/22: We’ve hit our match-funding target and raised over £20,000! Further donations won’t be matched but you can still donate and help us expand this work.

Despite the urgent need to cut carbon emissions, seven airport expansions are underway in the UK. People living in the shadows of Heathrow, Gatwick, Bristol, Southampton, Stansted, Manston and Luton are giving up their time and energy to try to stop these disastrous projects getting planning approval.

NEF has been working with these small, local groups. Our researchers have exposed the false claims about environmental impact and economic benefits used by the airports to justify their expansions, and acted as expert witnesses at planning inquiries. Together, we have already forced the cancellation of the planned expansion of Leeds Bradford Airport.

But more groups are coming to NEF for urgent support than we have resources to help. So we are delighted to have been selected by the Big Give for this year’s #GreenMatchFund. From noon on Friday 22 April to noon on Friday 29 April, the Big Give will match all donations up to our target of £10,000.

If you’d like to help, please give and the Big Give will double your donation to double your impact. Your gift can:

  1. Aid community groups to defeat high-carbon projects with new research exposing airport developers’ false claims, and with expert testimony in inquiries
  2. Inspire more people to stand up against airport owners with a shareable video and other communications that explain the complex economic, environmental and legislative issues involved.
  3. Support our work to show civil servants how to update planning guidelines so decisions are made in line with the government’s net zero target.

Please go to our Big Give campaign page to support. Thank you.

We are a small community group who successfully fought the Leeds Bradford Airport expansion. NEF analysis was critical in exposing the myth of economic benefits’ and showing the project’s real impact.” Ian Coatman, Secretary, Group for Action on Leeds Bradford Airport
