  1. Chinese knows the alternatives. There is abundant of social media networks in China providing all sort of views. 100+ millions overseas trips were made by Chinese people every years. 99.9% of them return to China. Millions of Chinese students studied in the West and 90%+ returned to China. The fact that Chinese are happy and supportive of the current political and social system says a lot about the American/Western alternative. Fridman is both ignorant and arrogant.

  2. People should visit China before forming pre conceptions from bias western medias. China is much more modern and advanced than the west. The chinese also can login to goggle or youtube via vpn. But they dont need to do that cos their own infrastructure and technologies are much superior to the west. The Chinese government works and strives to improve the livelihoods of the chinese while corrupted western leaders serves the top 10% of the rich while ordinary folks get poorer and working longer hours. The western democracy can be bought by money and the country will never improve if corruption is the foundation of the democratic system.

  3. Lex is a brainwashed nut.

Ignorance is bliss really apply to Lex.

    Lex epitomise the west.

  4. Hi I've been to China in 2014 and many of the middle aged people are quite well-informed geopolitically. I don't think the Chinese don't know about the "greener pastures" outside. You need to understand that many East Asians can speak and understand English and hence can quickly grasp not only the basic information about the West but understand the culture from Movies. Furthermore Hollywood movies are still shown in China and Chinese people can freely travel. Unfortunately, I would like to say that the interviewer represents most Western people's unwillingness to see other perspectives. You see if you are from a "wealthier" country, you tend to "self censor" to think "there is nothing to learn elsewhere as we are the greatest". The West is always looking at other countries with their own yardsticks as a comparison. If infrastructure is poorer than others, they don't compare, if the country has lesser fredom of speech, boom its all over the news that this country is bad, very bad. The lack of the ability to speak and understand a foreign language further hinders their ability to understand something foreign.

Frog in the well, from the frog's perspective the sky is always smaller than the well.

  6. All those China lovers ask yourself one question: how many people immigrate INTO China every year vs. into ANY of the western countries? A luxury prison (and it is not luxury for most Chinese) is still a prison.

    • @horridohobbies

China doesn't have an open immigration policy. Immigration is actually quite difficult.

The Chinese are very happy. They love their life. They support their government.

You have no understanding of China. Have you visited the country???

    • @@horridohobbies I dont know if you are just stupid or a bought shill. No country has an open immigration policy, not the USA and not Germany, they just keep coming. but not to China.I very much doubt the involuntary organ donors love their government, or most of the people in Hong Kong, or the Tibetans, or those Chinese f**ked by the monetary policy of their government – who bought worthless apartments – and the list goes on.

  7. @foodparadise5792

To say Chinese can't criticize their government is pure propaganda, continuing the narrative of authoritarian vs democrazy ….it's not going to take us any where.

  8. R u drunk Lex? 😂

  9. I know I have a lot of freedom and alternatives. One of them is changing gender every other day.

  10. @mystictraveler8642

Westerners really have a hard time understanding the east. When you can't criticize the president is very misunderstood in china or asia for that matter. This is a cultural misunderstand. The american culture and personality is about "name calling" and "sarcasm."
In the east name calling, it's just a weird behavior when you are an adult. And to criticize a president on the world stage is bad behavior and very disrespectful. Why did Lex ask if being unable to criticize"destroys you?" So bizarre. Americans should really venture out to grow and develop their understanding.

  11. @williamniggle7382

The success of modern China — industrialisation and modernisation, is a result of the Chinese civilisation which is the oldest continuous civilisation on the planet. The Chinese people are able to find many lessons and enlightenments from their long history. This collective unconsciousness (C.G. Jung) have overcome a lot of difficulties, despite enormous setbacks in a century of humiliation from 1839 – 1949.

  12. "Centralized control of info" is really not what you think because for instance there are millions of Chinese to are on YouTube, X, Facebook daily (*they simply use a VPN which is actually legal there) and millions who have studied/graduated at universities in the West over the past many decades, plus millions more who travel to the West as tourists annually. Millions of Chinese do know how "green the grass is in the West". Today which side is greener? Would you know? Have you been to China recently?

Chinese know far more about the West than Westerners know about the Chinese. This is very clear. So guess who more are ACTUALLY the ignorant ones? Actually not the Chinese.

  13. Thanks, Lex, for exposing this fraud.

  14. The idea that Chinese people cannot criticize anything is strictly true. I am surprised Lex thinks that. You cannot curse your leaders, as you can in the West, but you can criticize policies and you have many ways to complain about officials and expose corruption.

  15. @horridohobbies

It's funny that this particular podcast by Lex Fridman isn't available on his channel. Butt hurt, Lex?

  16. @raymonddon8875

lex = loser, low forehead, low IQ with limited mindset.

  17. @jianchiwei5379

Lex, I am a bit disappointed by your prejudice as a host. You should travel to China, to build your up-to-date China-view.

  18. People don't realize that China is the old money if not the oldest continuous civilization. US is the new money here. China has been through ups and downs for many circles, however US hasn't experienced any downfall, gonna be interesting to see how it will handle the decline, that's the real test for a country

  19. @josehawking5293

The one area you have no clue about is China.🤔

  20. @USA-AMERICA-iq6qk

Chinese propaganda is over. No more Western help, no more China. Chinese propaganda says china is 5000 years old, which is a joke 🍊🍊🍊🐃🐃🐃🐃
