Today’s speaker hails from Beirut by way of Vashon. Egyptologist Peter Dorman will be speaking about his field work in Luxor and his experiences as a professor at the American University of Beirut (AUB).



Peter’s work as an archeologist and educator is an obvious fit for this year’s theme, Pioneers! O Pioneers!, especially as his methodology of reconstructing monuments, and then staging their ruination, draws interesting connections to our design process.



In addition to working in curatorial positions at the Metropolitan Museum in New York, Peter was president of AUB for seven years, and will offer some reflections on education’s role in promoting humanistic values in a troubled region.
