Jodi Beggs: Economists Do It With Models
TEDxBrasd’Or took place on August 20, 2011 in Membertou, Nova Scotia. It was the first-ever TEDx event on Cape Breton Island.
The theme of TEDxBrasd’Or was “the other side has another side.” The other side of a problem is a solution, and living in a mostly rural region of Atlantic Canada with a declining population and a loss of major industries has forced a lot of people to take action. Moving forward to a more prosperous future is an ongoing process and it isn’t a miracle that’s going to solve problems in this part of the world, but creativity. That’s why TEDxBrasd’Or focused on looking beyond simple solutions and exploring creative, ingenious and even “out there” solutions to solve problems across a wide variety of disciplines.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations) |
