I think we should be talking more not only about the anti-scientific character of this ideology, but also about the MATERIAL BASIS of this movement organized by Hayek and others, to mobilize and coordinate big capital in subverting science, scholarship and media.
When we see two "economists" presented in parallel fashion, one of them being an actual political economist like Steve, and another a libertarian ideologue pushing fairytales and collecting a paycheck and being materially supported in all particulars by the fracking industry, people are nonetheless inclined to imagine they are two "players of the same sport", so to speak, just wearing different-colored uniforms, when in fact they are entirely different creatures.
And this points to another key issue — what mechanisms have been put forth to prevent "True Scotsman Capitalism" from inevitably devolving, as it has in hundreds of historical instances, into "Crony Capitalism"?
I only see two solutions being offered: 1. "Small government", which doesn't work because big capitalists have the incentive and power to make government bigger and 2. "Education and advocacy", which is another way of saying an all pervading system of, propaganda, censorship and indoctrination coordinated by and in service of a tiny oligarchic elite.
