GGDC Maddison Lecture series: Leading economist Thomas Piketty explores ‘Rising Inequality and Globalisation’.



Thomas Piketty is the author of the best-selling book Capital in the Twenty-First Century (2013), which is the result of his path-breaking work on the distribution of wealth over the past 250 years. In a TED talk he summarises his main conclusions: Economic inequality is increasing again, with potentially far-reaching consequences for our society.



In his recent work Piketty continues his research on wealth and income inequality. He is a professor at the School for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences (EHESS), associate chair at the Paris School of Economics and Centennial professor at the International Inequalities Institute, which is part of the London School of Economics (LSE).



Thomas Piketty
Thomas Piketty (7 May 1971) is a French economist who works on wealth and income inequality. He is a professor (directeur d'études) at the École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), associate chair at the Paris School of Economics and Centennial professor at the London School of Economics new International Inequalities Institute.
