Piketty called on the French Minister of Education Blancier, the French Minister of the Interior Gerald Dermanan, and the philosopher Pascal Bruckner for "an end to such racist speeches."

The National Union of French Students considered the Minister of Education's accusations "unacceptable and unworthy of the Minister of National Education."

"The suggestion that we are spreading an ideology specific to radical Islam, or saying that we sympathize with it, through our actions, is evidence of ignorance," the union said in a statement.

During the past few days, France witnessed the publication of insulting images and cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his progeny, on the facades of buildings, which sparked a wave of anger throughout the Islamic world.
