Book Review on Another Now: Despatches from an Alternative Present by Yanis Varoufakis

Summary:
Time for another book review! This time it's the new book by Yanis Varoufakis, Another Now: Despatches from An Alternative Present. What can I say? The duration of this video says it all. This one has been playing on my mind for a while as I reflected on the concepts presented about a fair and equitable society. Although some of it meant I had to read up on and learn so that I can grapple with what he was presenting, many times it was what he didn't say in the sentences that spoke volumes. That is, there were times I would read the sentences, put down the book and contemplate what he was saying and then immediately, it would bring up additional questions and ideas that were underlying that message. If anything, this book made me realise my own knowledge gaps in understanding

If anything, this book made me realise my own knowledge gaps in understanding economics and not to take for granted what is being fed to us by the monopolies. Is there an alternative? I'm not sure.

What I do understand is that the current system is not working either and as an ex-corporate worker, I too became demoralised about a lot of things too.

In this review, I talk about my perspective of this important book for 2020 and beyond.

Thanks for watching my YouTube videos.

I share all sorts of content around how to be an active, continual and lifelong learner; to build new skills and capabilities that will help support you in your life and career.

Most of the videos I share are me "working and learning out loud" in the moment which explains why some of them are in portrait mode (I simply used Snapchat or Instagram Stories to capture them and upload them to YouTube).

I use YouTube as a journey of my life and learning. It is my online visual diary, if you will. I don't share videos to build an audience or a business. Instead, it's a way of showing my progression as a lifelong learner myself over the years. A record that I existed in this world! As such you'll see videos of varying quality and with ever changing interests related to subjects that are important to me that time.

As an an avid reader and someone who believes in learning lessons from books we read, I share book reviews here too.

Yanis Varoufakis
An accidental economist Let me begin with a confession: I am a Professor of Economics who has never really trained as an economist. But let’s take things one at a time.
