Update: I've just thought of a way around the problem, which all encryptionionists would be aware of, I'm sure; most sites only let you try a password a few times before they lock you out for a few minutes, and if you keep getting it wrong they lock you out for longer. But systems could easily be designed to only allow a person to enter a password once every few seconds, maybe 10 to 20 seconds. Present day computers wouldn't be able to keep up with millions of passwords being entered anyway.
