The Degree Programs are either B.A. or B.S. that create the "Artist" or the "Scientist".... not the "Artist" vs. "Economist"...

Adam's training was a B.A. (methodology) in Economics (discipline)...

His "critical thinking" is not found in a discipline it is a methodology that is ideally trained under the B.S. degree program which he never got...

Here is a wiki on "Critical Thinking":

Critical thinking is the analysis of facts to form a judgment.[1] The subject is complex, and several different definitions exist, which generally include the rational, skeptical, unbiased analysis, or evaluation of factual evidence. Critical thinking is self-directed, self-disciplined, self-monitored, and self-corrective thinking. It presupposes assent to rigorous standards of excellence and mindful command of their use. It entails effective communication and problem-solving abilities as well as a commitment to overcome native egocentrism[2][3] and sociocentrism.

I would never use the above paragraph to describe anyone I've observed trained under a B.A. in Economics.

So Adams is off the mark here, his training is not ideal he is an Artist (both in training and vocation) he's got a B.A. in Economics from a Liberal Arts school and has published satire as a vocation for years... not a properly trained Science Degree for "critical thinking"....

Thinks the issuance of US Treasury securities are 'borrowing from the Chinese!' and the whole Monetarist dogma... can't adequately discriminate... never any proper training...
