While "just about everyone" polls for helping Ukraine, there is no mention of the consequences of actions that could involve NATO engaging Russian troops, with the potential consequence of, for instance, 1) commitment of US troop to a war with Russia over Ukraine. 2) wider war in Europe to defend NATO's eastern members, 3) use of tactical nuclear weapons to destroy NATO facilities in Europe and UK, 4) strategic use of nuclear weapons agains the continental US against which the US has no defense as a result of MAD.
"Just about everyone" is concerned about Iran getting nukes and North Korea having nukes, especially nukes capable of hitting the US, few seem to have through through provoking Russia, which has as many if not more nuclear weapons than the US and many more tactical nukes than the US and NATO — and, most significantly, hypersonic missiles to deliver them that NATO cannot defend against once they are launched. Russia also has a nuclear trident consisting of submarines, strategic bombers, and land-based weapons systems, fixed and mobile.
This ignorance is not surprising, since, unlike during the Cold War, the public has not been prepared for the eventually. So the polling result are unsurprising.FAIR
