Forget politics. Imagine it was one president from last year to this year. Imagine February 2020 they were brokering the release of 5000 Taliban prisoners, then they get released including their leader, then we bail and leave everyone behind. What does that look like to you as a setup? Trump and Biden are puppets… don't get mixed up.
We completed the mission 18 months upon entering Afghanistan, the mission was to deny a territorial safe haven to an opposition group… and then mission creep set in. People who wanted to stay there, or to profit from it, or to use it to their own benefit.
They started tasking the military with more and more stuff.
Lesson, make sure the goal is very well defined and that the military sticks to that goal.
Also, don’t use the department of war for nation building.
